Real Madrid wanted to sign Chelsea No.1 Thibaut Courtois instead of David de Gea this summer, according to the reports.
David de Gea is widely expected to replace Iker Casillas this summer but things would have been different as Real Madrid earlier wanted Thibaut Coutois as their shot stopper.
The deal did not happen as Chelsea demanded a whopping £73million for their stopper. Real Madrid were reportedly willing to pay £37million for the Belgian international after a fantastic first season at Stamford Bridge.
A deal worth £37million would have made him the world’s most expensive goal keeper but Chelsea almost doubled the offer to wave off interest from Real Madrid. The fee would have equalled the fee of Gareth Bale whom they bought back in 2013.
The player have impressed Real madrid during his loan spell at Athletico Madrid but Chelsea were reluctant to sell away ther prized asset. Recent reports suggest Real Madrid president Florentino Perez would meet David de Gea’s agent this week and a bid around £25 million is expected to secure the services of the Spanian.
Manchester United believe that de Gea has a current market value of £40 million and will try to hold on to their star keeper.
