The former number 7 for Manchester United, who came all the way from Spain to join the English giants has revealed the reason as to why did the Blancos sell him to the Red Devils.
Di Maria, who is currently at PSG has joined Manchester United for a British record fee. Di Maria’s arrival created a new ray of hope for the fans as they believed they found their ‘’Angel’’. However, it took no time for the Angel to depart from the devils. After a disappointing season at Old Trafford, ADM made way for his exit from English football. The Argentine was sold to PSG for a sum of £44.3 million. Well, that was a loss in terms of money for United as he was purchased for £59.7 million. The difference is sad, really sad.
The fans claimed that Di Maria didn’t deserve the heritage number 7 jersey as he was allegedly termed a ‘fraud’ after he joined the wealthy Paris team. However, Angel openly revealed the reason behind him being sent to United. He claimed that Madrid wanted to cover up the costs after they bought Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez in the transfer window.
He cleared the misconceptions and stated,
“I didn’t leave for money,” Di Maria told reporters after PSG’s defeat on Tuesday night.
“I wanted to see if I could renew and they didn’t want me to. They wanted to cover the costs of the great players they had signed that summer.
“I had to leave by the back door. It wasn’t how I would have wanted.”
Di Maria is currently is backing up on his form at Paris and showing signs of improvement. In his 12 games, he has netted four times. He is happy at the club and insists staying for a long time. “I am changing little by little,” he added. “I’m happy in Paris and I hope to be for many years.”
