Premier League giants Chelsea are reportedly lining up £20m for FC Koln full-back Jonas Hector as Antonio Conte is looking to bolster defensive options before the end of transfer window.
The Blues have only signed N’Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi so far this summer, and both of them have participated in the Blues dramatic 2-1 win over West Ham United.
According to Mirror, Hector could be the latest name to appear on Antonio Conte’s wishlist.
Cesar Azpilicueta has established himself as the first-choice left back at Stamford Bridge. However, Conte is keen on to bolster his squad and Hector seems to be an idea addition.
The Mirror also reported that Chelsea are ready to pay £20m bid for the German star despite the fact that he has extended his contract with Koln.
It’s Believed Liverpool have been linked with the Hector this summer, but if speculation is to be believed, then Liverpool will face competition from their Premier League rivals.
Weighing up the needs of the two clubs, Liverpool are arguably in need defender more than Chelsea, but the Blues have been handed a huge boost to splash £140m and could win the race for German star.
Hector has proven his worth at Koln, playing in a formation geared towards counter-attacking and hitting opponents on the break. Peter Hoger’s men like to keep things tight and Hector’s stature – standing 6’1 – is a big help when it comes to defending set-pieces.
Few modern full-backs are defensive as sound on crosses coming from the opposite flank, and he’s strong in one vs one situation with opposing wingers also.
Additionally, Hector has the handy ability to be able to break swiftly from defence and get himself into advanced positions, either with or without the ball.
