Chelsea have recieved a major fitness boost after it was confirmed by Chelsea TV that Thibaut Courtois has returned to first-team training at club’s Cobham training complex. The Belgian stopper is out of the team since early September after injuring his knee during pre-season and then International duty. Courtois went through an operation in early september and has been out of action since.
In his absence, Chelsea saw Asmir Begovic keep 5 clean sheets in 16 games. The stat may not be impressive but Begovic did not have the luxury ofplaying with John Terry and Gary Cahill of last season. This season, Chelsea’s defense has been very poor and there cannot have been a better news for Jose Mourinho to see his number one goal keeper return to action.
Folllwing the international break, Chelsea return to action this weekend as they take on Norwich in an almost must-win scenario. Begovic will be asked to deliver another strong performance as Blues defense cannot be relied upon these days. Courtois perhaps stands out in that aspect from the rest. The 23-year old keeper has the ability to pull off game changing saves in an instance. That is why, his retunr will be key for Chelsea going ahead this season.
