Arsenal and Arsene Wenger were successful in defending the FA cup in the previous season with some impressive displays by the Chile star Alexis Sanchez. The team looked solid towards the end of the previous season finishing 3rd on the points table and qualifying for the European Elite competition. They will want to prove their critics wrong and put on an impressive performance in the 2015-16 season and maintain their elite status in the Premier League.
In this article, we take a look at what makes the gunners a strong team and their activity in the transfer market this summer to strengthen any weaknesses in the squad.
Wenger has always relied on slick football with intricate passing which is always a joy to watch. The likes of Alexis Sanchez, Giroud, Welbeck and Walcott make the club a strong attacking unit. Their attacking midfielders in Ozil, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Rosicky and Aaron Ramsey have loads of talent and can break the grittiest of the defenses. Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla are other players whom the manager rely upon almost every game.
They have David Ospina, W Szczesny and Cech in their ranks for the Goal keepers spot which will make the trio work harder for their place in the squad. They have great depth in the squad and look all ready to compete in all the cups. With the history of injuries in the squad, Wenger will need all of the depth if he wants to succeed in Europe.
Koscielny, Mertersacker and Kieron Gibbs are the three central defenders that Wenger calls upon the most. Arsenal were disciplined in the previous season letting in just 36 goals but they are a bit shaky at the back under pressure. They need to be more organized and the wing backs like Bellarin should provide more solidarity to the back four in big matches.
Their defensive midfield lacks a power house player who can give the extra bit of protection in front of goal. They need to find that extra bit of control in defense that can allow them to start their attacking moves briskly. They will have to act fast in the transfer window if they plan on re-enforcing the defensive midfield area.
Arsenal have not had a lot of business this season with Petr Cech being the only player to have come into the team. They were continuously linked with Karim Benzama and Lacazette the preferred options. But both rumors seem to have no truth as no bids have been reported yet. They lost Lukas Podolski who was on loan last season to Galatasaray for 1.8 million.
They are now in market for a new striker and the club legend Thierry Henry felt that the club needed up-to four new players to compete in the Premier League next season.
So Arsenal who are slowly building a strong squad still need to work on a thing or two before the squad becomes world class. But the style of play and the experience of the manager may just help Arsenal lift more than one trophy like they have in the last two seasons.
