As per the latest reports from Evening Standard Atletico Madrid have started to look for proper replacements for the £44million man Antoine Griezmann. The French forward has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
Evening Standard reports that Atletico Madrid are looking to Tottenham’s Erik Lamela as the most viable option as Griezmann’s replacement. If Griezmann is indeed closing towards a move away from Atletico Madrid then Chelsea will be his next destination.
Griezmann has been previously quoted saying how he would love a move to Chelsea and he cannot turn down an opportunity to work in the Premier League.
Tottenham are looking to cut down on their massively overpaid squad in the summer and Erik Lamela leads the chopping list after failing to live up to the £30million price tag for which he was bought.
Lamela has a long connection with Diego Simeone. Back in 2007-08 season when Lamela was coming through the Argentine football, Simeone was in charge of the Argentine club Bruno Aires and has been a long-term admirer of Lamela’s skills.
Having failed to impress in the Premier League, Lamela could do himself justice with a move to La Liga and it would free a way for Chelsea to snap up Griezmann from Atletico Madrid.
Grizmann will come at a price as it is being reported that the player has a £44million release clause attached to his contract which has to be paid before he could join any other club in the summer.
