Louis van Gaal has poured cold water on the hopes of Manchester United fans who were looking for reinforcements to be brought in the current winter transfer window as he claims it could be a silent window for the Mancunian giants.
“I cannot discuss that with you. I don’t think we shall do business in January.” Said van Gaal when quizzed over signings.
This comes at a time when the Red Devils were linked with the Lazio midfielder Felipe Anderson who has been a target for them since the summer window at the very least. The player was the target of a 50 million euros bid by the club back in August but it failed to acquire his services from his current club Lazio, where he is a bright spot in a squad littered with mediocre players.
The manager however refuses to rule out any speculation saying that he believes any player who makes the team better will be added. This is an extremely confusing stance as this implies that the manager thinks that there aren’t really many players who can improve the club’s plight in the market.
“But you cannot say that because when there is a chance to make the selection better, we shall do it, but I don’t think we shall do that. But that is this moment.”
As Manchester United limped to a lame one nil victory against minnows Sheffield United, needing a penalty deep in extra time from Wayne Rooney to salvage a last gasp win.
With Martial playing as a winger, it would be perplexing for the fans to see the club not chasing any strikers as they currently only depend on Wayne Rooney for goals. As the attacking play comes back to an insipid and impotent form, it remains to be seen if the biggest move Manchester United make this window is with a player transfer or infact a managerial change.
