Chelsea fans have been handed a mid-season present by their club as the Blues have offered John Terry his much awaited one-year extension with the club.
John Terry signed a mammoth £150,000-a-week contract which will keep him at Stamford Bridge till the end of 2015-16 season. It was widely feared that John Terry could follow Frank Lampard out of the club as the club have grown uncertain of handing contracts to players above the age of 30.
Jose Mourinho was certain of Terry’s stay at the club and he had assured all the Chelsea fans that Terry will be given his extension it was just the matter of few last-minute deals and as it appears, Terry has signed his much-awaited 1 year contract extension with his boyhood club.
However, this move by Chelsea seems to have ended all hopes of Raphael Varane signing for Chelsea. Varane was tipped as the long-term replacement for John Terry but instead Chelsea have decided to stick with their rear guard and pass on the opportunity sign Raphael Varane.
This gives Manchester United a massive edge in the race to sign the young Frenchman from Real Madrid. United were worried of Chelsea’s growing interest in Varane but now Van Gaal can sign the talented Real Madrid defender without significant trouble.
