Manchester United could launch a bid for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani this month, according to reports. Sources have told ESPN FC, that the Uruguayan striker is very keen on a move to Old Trafford and his representatives have contacted the Manchester United officials.
ESPN Sources say that Cavani is having issues with PSG and is looking for a way out. The 28-year-old’s representatives have initiated the contact with the Old Trafford hierarchy and there is an increasing feeling at United that he may provide a solution to their striking problems.
Ever since his move to Paris, Cavani has played out wide during his two-and-a-half years with PSG and wants to be played as a central striker. However, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic still in the PSG team, Cavani will have to wait for his chance.
Manchester United’s inability to score goals this season is causing real problems for the club and United feel that Cavani can add urgency and pace in attack. United have a long-standing interest in Cavani, with former manager David Moyes having considered a move in 2013 after watching the striker a number of times and Cavani’s agents are hoping to restore that interest.
In spite of not playing centrally, Cavani has still managed to score 69 goals in 120 games for PSG since his 2013 move from Napoli.
PSG have previously been reluctant to sell Cavani despite interest from a number of clubs, but recently Laurent Blanc has admitted that Cavani is free to leave Paris. The PSG boss said “There is a problem with Cavani’s behaviour but my job is to think of the entire squad as a collective, We did hold a staff meeting and among the various issues we discussed were Cavani and his complaints. The desires of the individual can’t affect the rest of the team.I believe that he can score here but I understand if he wants to consider other career opportunities.”
Cavani has been heavily linked with Arsenal in the previous windows and Wenger understood to be an admirer of the striker. Chelsea have their own striker problems and were linked with a move for Cavani just days before. Serie A champions Juventus are also said to be keen to bring the striker back to Italy.
