India were trashed by England by 1-5 in the third- fourth place playoffs at the World Hockey League Semi finals played at Anterwp, Belgium just few moments ago. It was a disappointing performance by team India whose defense was not up to the mark and let the England forward dominate the game.
In the first quarter in the 2nd minute England missed a chance of scoring a goal. In the 5th minute India attacked but was well saved by the England goalkeeper. In the next few minutes India and England attacked. In 10.13 minutes England two successive penalty corners. The second penalty corner was converted by Broadgen to give England 1-0 lead. At the end of 1st quarter England led 1-0.
In the second quarter India began well in the 2nd minute but it was well saved by the England goalkeeper. England dominated the play and attacked the Indian defense. In the 12th minute a shot came and deflection from Griffth gave England 2-0 lead. At the end 2nd quarter England led 2-0.
In the 3rd quarter England dominated the play again. In the 6th minute a pass was to Ashley Jackson to give England 3-0 lead. In the 10th minute England earned a penalty corner but did not convert. The next minute England earned another penalty corner and penalty corner was converted into a goal to give England 4-0 lead. In the 14th minute, Middleton scored another goal to give England a commanding 5-0 lead. At the end of 3rd quarter England led 5-0.
In the 4th quarter England missed another chance of scoring a goal in the 5th minute. In the 8th minute India earned a penalty corner but went well wide off the goal post. In the 12th minute England earned two successive penalty corners but did not succeeded. In the 14th minute India earned a penalty and penalty corner was converted into a goal by Rupinder Pal Singh to give India a consolation goal. At the end of match England won it 5-1.
India finished 4th in this tournament and needs to work their defense before the Olympics comes.
