Jaypee Punjab Warriors continued their brilliant form in the Hockey India League by beating Kalinga Lancers 2-1 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar today. It was a good performance by Kalinga Lancers as they took the first lead and stretched the table toppers to the limit. Jaypee Punjab Warriors came back third quarter from a goal down and showed their class in the tournament in the last quarter.

In the first quarter no teams were able to score the goals. Kalinga Lancer got lot of chances but did not get the goal. At the end of the first quarter it was 0-0.

In the second quarter Kalinga Lancer got the lead when Lucas Villa scored the goal. It was a much needed goal for Kalinga Lancers. At the end of 2nd quarter it was 1-0 in the favor of Kalinga Lancer.

In the third quarter both of the teams played some excellent hockey. In the 12th minute Jaypee Punjab Warriors earned a penalty corner. Sandeep Singh hit a powerful stroke at a pace of 127km/Hr and equalized the score at 1-1. At the end of third quarter it was 1-1.

In the fourth quarter Jaypee Punjab Warriors took a lead when Affan Yussuf smashed a reverse flick shot of a pass right wing to give Punjab a 2-1 lead. After that Kalinga Lancers tried many shots but Warriors defense was up to the task.  In the 12 minute Kalinga Lancers was awarded 2 penalty corners in a row but could not covert any. They were awarded the third penalty corner for holding the ball by the goalkeeper. Kalinga asked for a review for penalty corner, the third umpire opined that ball was in play throughout and there is no reason to change the decision. At the end of the fourth quarter it was 2-1 in favor of Jaypee Punjab Warriors.

Jaypee Punjab Warriors entered the circle of Kalinga Lancers 11 times as against 6 times of Kalinga Lancers. Punjab hit 3 shots on target while Kalinga Lancers hit 2 shots on target.

The hero goal of the match was Affan Yussuf and the man of match was Lucas Villa.

By winning this match Jaypee Punjab Warriors strengthened their position at the top of the table.
