Jaypee Punjab Warriors beat Mumbai 3-2 in their last league match of Hockey India League at the Mohali Stadium this evening. It was a good match by both teams but Jaypee Punjab played much better than Mumbai in the second half. The match was watched by huge crowd at the ground.

In the first quarter Jaypee Punjab Warriors started off to a great start putting pressure on Mumbai defense. Their circle penetration was better and shot at the target were also good.But could not convert any chances into goal. At the end of first quarter it was 0-0.

The second quarter began well for Mumbai. In 1.06 Nick Catlin hit a powerful stroke from the “D” and converted into a goal to give Mumbai a 1-0 lead. After that Punjab Warriors made so many attempts at goal but Mumbai defense was up to the task. In 9.06 minute Jaypee Punjab missed a chance of a field goal. In 10.56 minute Mumbai goalkeeper made an excellent save. In 12.31 minute Mumbai missed a chance of a goal again. In 14.15 minute Jaypee Punjab missed a chance of goal. At the end of second quarter it was 1-0 in favor of Mumbai.

The third quarter began well for Mumbai. Mumbai asked for review seeking a foul of a defense player to be given a penalty corner, but third umpire denied and therefore Mumbai lost review. Soon after Mumbai earned a penalty corner in which Hayward hit a shot and flew over after a defense players’ effort well over extended hand of goalkeeper and the goal post. In 3.41 Jaypee Punjab Warriors earned a penalty corner but could not convert the chance into a goal. In 6.14 minute Whetton hit a powerful stroke from the “D” and converted into a goal to level the scoring at 1-1. Punjab put a lot of pressure on Mumbai. Jaypee Punjab Warriors earned a penalty stroke in 13.23 minute for wrong tackling by Tom Boon. Sandeep Singh converted the penalty stroke into goal to give Jaypee Punjab 2-1 lead.  At the end of third quarter it was 2-1 in favor of Jaypee Punjab Warriors.

In the fourth quarter Mumbai started off aggressively. In 2.28 minute Mumbai hit a powerful stroke but was well saved Jaypee Punjab keeper. Again in 2.36 minute Mumbai hit another shot but again well saved by Jaypee Punjab keeper. In 3.50 minute Jaypee Punjab missed a chance of converting a goal. In 4.54 minute Jaypee Punjab Warriors striker hit a shot but could missed the goal. In 7.06 minute Mumbai earned a penalty corner and Harmanpreet converted the penalty corner into a goal to level the score at 2-2. In 7.38 Jaypee Punjab missed another chance of converting a goal. In 10.07 Mumbai hit a shot but a defense player save helped Punjab. In 11.15 minute Mumbai earned a penalty corner but could convert the chance into a goal. In 12.10 minute Mumbai goalkeeper made an excellent save. In 13.20 minute Simon Orchard hit a pass to Jamie Dwyer and gave it to Govers, who tapped into a goal to give Jaypee Punjab 3-2 lead. In 14.05 minute Jaypee Punjab earned a penalty corner but was hit wide off the goal to the right of goalkeeper.  Finally Jaypee Punjab won the match 3-2.

By winning this match Jaypee Punjab finished the league stage at the top of table and will face Delhi in the semi finals while UP will face Ranchi.
