World Hockey League Semi finals: IndoPak match ends in a thrilling draw


  • India drew with Pakistan 2- 2 in their third group match at the World Hockey League semi finals played at Anterwp, Belguim just few moments. It was a exciting match with both teams played good hockey as India will not happy of missing so many chances of scoring goals but they will happy that India did not conceded the goal in the dying moments.

    In the first quarter both teams played possession hockey. In the 6th minute Pakistan made the first attack but it was well saved by Sreejesh. Pakistan dominated the play for the next 5 to 6 minutes. In the 12th minute Gurmail Singh hit a powerful shot and Ramandeep stretched deflecting into a goal to give India a 1-0 lead. In the 14th minute P Sreejesh made another save. At the end of first quarter India led 1-0.

    In the 2nd quarter in the 1st minute Pakistan made a good move but was well saved by P Sreejesh and then by the defender. In the 8th minute Pakistan earned 1st penalty corner and then another penalty corner. The 2nd penalty corner India reviewed it but the decision stood. 2nd penalty corner was then awarded a penalty stroke. The penalty stroke was converted into by Mohmmad Irfan in the 8th minute to equalize the score at 1-1. In the 14th minute India was awarded a penalty corner but was well saved by the Pakistan goalkeeper. At the end of 2nd quarter the score was equal at 1-1.

    In the third quarter Pakistan earned the penalty corner and Mohmmad Irfan scored the goal in 5th minute to give Pakistan a 2-1 lead. Soon after Ramandeep scored the field goal for India in the 9th minute to equalize the score for at 2-2. In the 12th minute India earned penalty corner but was well not intercepted by the Mandeep Singh. In the 14th minute India made another move but was well saved by Imran Butt. At the end of 3rd quarter both teams were equal at 2-2.

    In the fourth quarter Pakistan earned the penalty corner in the first minute but did not make use of the chance. In the 2nd minute India hit a shot but was well saved by Pakistan goalkeeper twice. In the 8th minute India missed another chance of scoring a goal. In the 14th minute India’s Ramandeep Singh missed a golden chance as reverse flick shot went over the goal post. At the end of match the scores were tied 2-2.

    Both teams got 1 point each. India will next play Australia on the 28th. India are on seven points.
