Dipika Pallikal defeated compatriot Joshana Chinappa in a close contest to enter the final of WSA Granite Open squash tournament in Tornto on Thursday 19 February 2015. World No. 13 Pallikal powered past 21st-ranked Chinappa 10-12, 11-7, 11-9, 11-9 to enter her successive final of the season. Pallikal and Chinappa had last met in the Asian Games where the higher-ranked Indian won a fiercely contested quarterfinal. They fought in every game close all the way through but Pallikal won the big points that eventually made the difference.
Dipika Pallikal, the top seed had won in the Winnipeg Winter Club Women’s Open by reclaiming the World Squash Association (WSA) Challenger 15th title without dropping a game after conceding a game in the opening round on Sunday 1 February 2015. In the final then, Pallikal had defeated second seed Heba El Torky, the 24-year-old World No.26 from Egypt who finished runner-up in 2014, 11-4, 11-9, 11-8 to win her 10th WSA Tour title.
Third seed Pallikal will now meet England’s Sarah-Jane Perry in the final. Perry packed off top seed Amanda Sobhy of USA 11-7, 11-8, 8-11, 8-11, 11-6.
Two Indian International players Ms.Dipika Pallikal and Ms. Joshna Chinnappa created a stir in the country by not playing in the recently concluded Nation Games. However they did well to reach the semifinals on 19 February 2015 in Toronto. Just like the Asian Games they are facing each other in one of the semifinals.
Dipika the third seeded for this tournament won over the former world no 2nd fifth seed for the tournament Ms. Jenny Duncan in a five set match on 19 Feb 2015. The match was grueling one which Dipika pulled through finally at 11-8, 9-11, 11-6, 7-11 and 13-11. On the other hand Seventh seeded Ms. Joshna Chinnappa upset by defeating Ms. Rachael Grinham of Australia a second seeded player for the tournament in just 23 minutes 11-1, 11-8 and 11-6.
