West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday congratulated ace Indian gymnast and Tripura girl Dipa Karmakar for qualifying in the Rio Olympic final round to be held on August 14.

Dipa who turned 23 today qualified for the final round in the individual vault of artistic gymnastics after finishing eighth on the standings.

Banerjee said: “I congratulate Dipa for her brilliant success in Rio. She has already taken Tripura to the world arena. She will make the country proud.”

The West Bengal Chief Minister was addressing a public gathering in Tripura capital Agartala.

Banerjee said: “Today is Dipa’s birthday. I wish her all success and good health.”

The Trinamool Congress chief in her tweet on Monday congratulated Dipa and praised her success.
