Indian shuttler PV Sindhu might have delivered one of the most brilliant performances from an Indian at this Olympics when she stunned World number 2 Wang Yihan to advance in the semifinal of women’s singles. The two-time World Championship bronze medallist defeated Wang Yihan in straight games, 22-20, 21-19. With the win, Sindhu became only the second Indian women’s player to reach the semi-final of Olympic Games after Saina Nehwal reached the same stage at the 2012 London Games.

Sindhu is now a win away from assuring India a medal in the women’s singles category. If she wins her semi-final, she plays the gold medal match, which assures at least a silver for India.

As expected fans on Twitter heaped lavish praise on the shuttler.
