The Indian men’s hockey team coach Oltmans said that the Indian team needs to be at their best in every match to be in medal contenders in the upcoming Rio Olympics starting from 5th August in Rio.

“The team is eager and ready to challenge itself. In the lead up to the Olympics, we have shown some really good performances. It shows the ability of this team against the top sides in the world. Now the idea is to show and prove that it was not one-off,” Oltmans said ahead of the team’s departure for the Games.

“We still have to show that we can repeat such a performance in every match at the Olympic Games. Our challenge is to do our best every day in Brazil. If we’re able to do so, we stand a good chance of medal ,” he added

The Indian hockey team had a disappointing 2012 London Olympics where they lost all their matches and finished last. Since then times have changed and the Indian team is looking a confident unit. They can give top teams like Australia, Germany, Netherlands a tough time.

The 16 member Indian squad departed to Madrid to play friendly matches against Spain before going to Rio. Indian hockey team has been in brilliant form winning a silver medal in Sultan Azlan Shah, winning silver for the first time in Champions trophy tournament and had a brilliant tournament in six-nation tournament held in Valencia.

The Indian team underwent a 10-day camp. The team is clubbed with Netherlands, Germany, Ireland, Canada and Argentina.
