Zeeshan Ali, coach of the Indian Davis Cup team informed the incredible success story behind Sania Mirza-Martina Hingis pair by winning nine trophies this season including two Grand Slam tournaments, lies in Martina’s guidance and Sania Mirza’s tenacity.

Zeeshan Ali, who was also practice partner of Martina Hingis for a couple of years, said over phone from Bangalore on Sunday, “I advised Sania casually to play the doubles with such a player from whom she could learn a lot. And it was co-incidence that after couple of weeks I gave her the advice, I watched in the newspaper that Sania will be participating in the Indian Wells, pairing with Martina Hingis. The month was around April this year.”

Zeeshan added saying, “Talking about work ethics and maintaining discipline Martina Hingis is an amazing player I have seen so far. I can remember an incident around 18 years ago when Hingis was World’s number one ranked player. I went to Dubai airport to receive her as Hingis was coming to Dubai to participate in Dubai Open tennis championship.

“And immediately, after having landed at the airport in the afternoon, Hingis asked me to get mentally prepared as she would do training on the same day! And I know Hingis has transpired this professionalism into Sania’s mindset.

“After clinching US Open doubles, I called Hingis to congratulate her. That time she informed Sania also had a tremendous tenacity to learn. That why, she works hard to keep herself fit.”

Zeeshan also explained saying, “Hingis is a legendary player. Her guidance has been helping Sania extremely. That is why Sania has also improved a lot in her drop shots which is highly required to perform in the doubles match.”
