The King of Clay, Rafael Nadal returns to familiar ground (clay court) with the Rio Open, the second ATP 500 tournament of the season.

The eight-time French Open champion who is in Rio de Janeiro for the tournament had a rare opportunity to witness the Rio carnival and be a part of it. The carnival is the biggest of its kind in the world, with over 2 million people in streets at a time.

Nadal and countryman, David Ferrer sang and danced with the crowd. The Spanish duo had a wonderful time together and were all smiles, posing for shutters while dancing unmindful in rain.

“There was unbelievable positive energy everywhere. Everyone was singing and dancing, it was fantastic for me to have the chance to enjoy this unique experience”, said Nadal.

Nadal and Ferrer are the top two seeds of the Rio Open which begins today (17th Feb, 2015). Nadal takes on Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci in the first round.

Can we expect Rafa to be the beast that he is, on clay? Let us wait and watch!
