Day 2 of the US Open had some of the major upsets as well as an easy cake walk for certain top seeds. Lucie Safarova, Gilles Simon, Alize Cornet, Timea Bacsinszky and Irina-Camelia Begu are the major top seeds to fall in the first round at Flushing Meadows.

Top seeds Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Stanislas Wawrinka, Simona Halep, Caroline Wozniacki, Petra Kvitova are safely through to the second round.

In the men’s category Giles, Simon suffered a shock exit after taking the opening two sets. Donald Young staged a miraculous comeback by taking the next three sets (2-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4) and emerged victoriously. Things turned around dramatically for the American and he started to dictate play along with a huge home support which drove him to victory.

Lucie Safarova the 2015 French Open finalist also suffered a shocking first round exit to Tsurenko in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. The no.6 seed made 33 unforced errors which were the main root cause for her defeat.
