The greatest wrestler according to many, may return this Sunday to participate in the Royal Rumble match. According to WWE Hall of Famer, “Nature Boy” Ric Flair, WWE wanted Shawn Michaels to come out of retirement and be a surprise entrant in this year’s Royal Rumble match.
In Flair’s Woooooo Podcast nation, Flair accepted that WWE has contacted the legend to break his retirement and make an in-ring return during the main event this Sunday. He quoted, “They want him so bad for the Royal Rumble, but he ain’t budging from his ranch down there in Texas.”
Needs to be mentioned here that since his retirement in 2010, Michaels had been asked many times for a return but he said no every time.
The last match he played was against The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 26 which is still considered as one of the best and the best by some. It was clear that Michaels was top of his game and steal the show afterwards too. But, he thought it was time for him to hang up his boots, as perhaps no one could have asked for a better finish like this.
It was in 2014 when he was considered for a return to wrestle against his student Daniel Bryan with whom he was involved in a storyline back then.
Instead, he ended up wrestling his best friend Triple H, where he made history by winning the WWE World Heavyweight championship, defeating Randy Orton and Batista in a second match.
This year’s Wrestlemania will be in his home state of Texas, so his presence is inevitable. Earlier he stated in Jim Ross’s podcast that WWE has already contacted him for competing in this year’s event but he turned down the offer. Michaels didn’t reveal the details of the offer, but it probably involved him wrestling either Daniel Bryan, Triple H, or The Rock.
Michaels has also added that the idea of wrestling the Rock has come up but he is not interested in competing against the “People’s champ” So, it will remain one of those dream matches which might never happen.
