John Cena is scheduled to take on the “Phenomenal One” AJ Styles on the 29th annual Summerslam from Brooklyn, New York on this Sunday. However, from then onwards, Smackdown Live will face a huge problem as they are going to miss the face that runs the place.
As per the previous reports, it was stated that John Cena has been focusing on more non-WWE contents starting from past couple of years. He intends to work on a lighter schedule from now onwards. Hence he will not be part of the returning Backlash PPV on September 11th scheduled to take place at the Coliseum in Richmond, Virginia.
Going by the latest updates, John Cena is going to be defeated by AJ Styles at the Summerslam PPV which means he will end up losing a bout in recent memory. And, from then on he will not be present on Smackdown Live TV taping due to the filming of America Grit TV series’ 2nd season on Fox Network. Last year, too Cena was absent or two months due to the same reason.

So, in the post-Summerslam scenario the blue brand is going to face a big problem since they have to go out for the inaugural brand specific PPV without the Cenation leader. It is rumored that AJ Styles will have his hands full with duties as he will be filling up Cena’ place. He is supposed to feature in the title picture via the huge win against Cena.
However, the 39-year-old veteran will make his in-ring return before the big PPV in late November i.e. Survivor Series that is already being announced in Toronto, Canada. Smackdown Live with the franchise being on the show will see some drop in ratings, for sure. But, at the same time, it’s the best time for the youngsters to step up when the face is available only on a part-time basis.
