As we all now, former two times World Champion Kane made it official two months ago speaking to a crowd at Sweet P’s Barbeque and Soul House announced his intention to look for the Republican nomination for mayor.
The 2018 election for Knox County mayor will be for an open seat to replace the current mayor Knox County Tim Burchett. The 52-year-old became mayor of Knox County in 2010.
Kane and his wife Crystal own an insurance agency in the Knoxville area. He took time off of WWE later last year to promote his insurance agency. Fans speculated him to be an entrant in the Royal Rumble match but he did not appear.
It might not be good news for the Kane fans. Kane joining politics means he will now take him aside from wrestling. We have not seen from Kane since 2016. He missed the Royal Rumble match too. It is also being speculated that the former two times world champion might retire from wrestling soon.
Recently ‘The Big Red Machine’ spoke to Bleacher Report about his political career. He was asked if he would be running for office with the Rock and some other questions. Here are some highlights;
What’s not talked about in wrestling:
“Wrestling is a lot like any other workplace. You don’t really talk religion or politics. But we are all independent contractors, so we pay our taxes quarterly. And we talk about taxes.”
Running for office with The Rock:
“Would I run with The Rock? Probably not. …I just want to do a good job as mayor. The local and the state levels are discounted too much. And I’m not devaluing the role of the federal government, but the country is right now in a top-down direction, and I want to be part of the wave that brings it back to a bottom-up nation, starting with the states.”
Using his notoriety to get a foot in the door:
“In politics, perception can be a reality. But I’m not interested in people who want to vote for me because they know Kane from TV. I want people to vote for me because of my positions. Name recognition is a door opener, and I use it, but I believe you stay inside only if you have good ideas. All I ask is for a forum to prove that I have those ideas.”
