INDIAN UNDER 15 GIRLS ENTER SEMIFINALS OF BADMINTON ASIA JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
Unseeded and first time entrant pair of Gayatri Pullela Gopichand and Vaishnavi Reddy of Indian brought laurels to self and the country when defeated Indonesian pair f Denisa Dwlsyawaliah Budlani and Nkhhla Aufa Dhiya Ulhaq in the quarter-final by 15-21, 21-28 and 21-19 to enter the semifinals of the girls (under15) doubles category. Among boys, Lakshya Sen won his singles match against Hiroki Nakayam of Japan easily at 21-13 and 21-12 in straight sets. In Boy’s doubles pair of Krishna Prasad and Satwik won their match against Rizki Adam and Raynald Hartanto of Indonesia in straight sets of 21-19,21-19 boys doubles (U17) of tournament of Badminton Asia (U 15) yesterday the 9th October 2015.
In a hard fought match Indian pair of Gayatri Gopichand and Vaishnavi Reddy, playing an international tournament for the first time, earned limelight for themselves and India by entering the semi-finals. They lost the first match at 15-21 but came back strongly to equalize at 21-18 in the second game. They held their nerves in the third game also win at 21-19 and the match that lasted for 55 minutes.
There were two Indian pairs among 19 teams in under 15 categories competing in the tournament. The second pair of Simran Singh and Rittika Thakkar lost in earlier rounds. Incidentally, Sports Authority of India cleared the under 15 teams late. If the parents were not to take the risk and file the teams, the country as whole could have lost the opportunity and the fame.
Badminton Asia U17 & U15 Junior Championships 2015 is being held on the 7th to the 11th of October in Kudus, Indonesia. There are five events in each age group of fewer than 17 and under 15, namely Boys Singles, Girls Singles, Boys doubles and Girls doubles and mixed doubles. There are 286 entries and 268 players playing for the championship trophies. India has 4 boys among 8 seeded entries (1, 2, 4 &5) singles and one seeded girl under 17 seeded at no 8. Boy’s doubles pair of Krishna Prasad and Satwik is seeded no 1.
