Australia vs India 2018/19: Team India Players React After Thumping Win At MCG
India bounced back in style from the defeat in the second Test to beat Australia by 137 runs in the third match. As a result of the win, India have not only taken an unassailable lead in the series but have also retained the Border-Gavaskar series.
After a delayed start due to rain, India took less than half-an-hour to take the two remaining Australian wickets on the final day. Australia could add only three runs to their overnight score of 258 for 8. Jasprit Bumrah accounted for Pat Cummins before Ishant Sharma dismissed Nathan Lyon to end the game. The win now gives India a golden opportunity to seal their first Test series victory Down Under. India had won the first Test at the Adelaide Oval before going down in Perth.
It was a clinical effort by the world number one side as they outplayed the hosts in each department. Batting first, India piled up 443 for 7 – their highest overseas total this year. Cheteshwar Pujara starred with the bat, scoring 106 while Mayank Agarwal, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma scored fifties. The bowlers then complimented the batsmen’s effort by coming up with a stunning show. Jasprit Bumrah picked up career-best 6 for 33 as India bowled the hosts out for just 151 to take a huge 298-run lead.
India suffered an inexplicable collapse in the second innings but had enough lead to set Australia a huge target. India declared their innings on 106 for 8 in the second innings to set Australia a huge 399-run target. In reply, Australia were all out for just 261. Barring Pat Cummins (63) and Shaun Marsh (44), none of the other batsmen could provide any notable resistance. Consequently, Australia kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and were bundled up for just 261.
Meanwhile, the Indian players were quick to express their delight over their win. Here are their reactions from Twitter:
