Ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup 2022, Bangladesh Cricket Board has appointed ace allrounder Shakib Al Hasan as the captain of the Bangladesh T20I team. Shakib is presently the Test captain of his country too. While announcing the decision, Bangladesh Cricket Board also stated that the veteran allrounder has been appointed as the captain till the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.

The development comes just a few days after Shakib had landed in trouble for his association with a betting site. Bangladesh Cricket Board had ordered him to end the association and had threatened to drop him from the team. Later, Shakib ended his association with the betting site, thus clearing the way for his participation in the upcoming Asia Cup.

Captaincy role not new for Shakib Al Hasan:

Shakib Al Hasan has led Bangladesh in the T20Is before. The star allrounder had filled in as the stand-in T20I skipper in 2009-10 when he led the side in four games. He was also the T20I skipper of the team after Mashrafe Mortaza’s retirement before being suspended by the ICC. In his second stint, he led Bangladesh from 2017 to 2019.
