It looks like there is some respite for English all-rounder Ben Stokes as he is all set to marry his fiancée Clare Ratcliffe on Saturday. The couple will tie the knot at the St. Mary the Virgin Church in Somerset just across Clare’s widowed mother’s house. Stokes will make a return to the West Country for the first time since his bar brawl incidence which for the moment has ruled him out from travelling with the team for the Ashes Down Under.
A reception will follow the wedding ceremony at the 16th century Rookery Manor a four star country house hotels and spa in a nearby Edingworth which has a capacity to accommodate 400 people. Stokes’s fiancée declared the wedding in a tweet in which she posted a picture of Stokes carrying his daughter’s bag, and she wrote:
“Four weeks today…I marry this man! The man wearing a Little Mermaid backpack!”
Clare and Stokes got engaged in 2013 after the death of Clare’s father, Arthur Ratcliffe. Stokes and Clare were recently seen in France attending the wedding of England opening batsman Jason Roy. Pictures of Stokes smoking cigarette and drinking beer went viral on the internet. A bandaged hand was visible in the images as broke a finger in the brawl.
Ben Stokes is under investigation for causing actual bodily harms to a 27-year-old man outside a bar after England’s win against West Indies in Bristol. Stokes was arrested by the police next day but was released and is still under investigation for the incidence and has been suspended by the ECB for any further selection in international cricket.
The incidence in Bristol has put Ben Stokes financial security in doubt as he might not be considered for the IPL next year if the investigation goes against him. He bagged in Rs 14.5 crores which were enough for him to buy a luxury home in Durham. His contract with New Balance which fetches him around Rs 1.75 crores is also under threat.
