Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly feels Indian batsmen will be key to success in the upcoming Test series against the hosts, England.

Meanwhile, India will feature in the five-match Test series commencing from August 1 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. However, the visitors will be a bit low on confidence following their loss in the three-match One-day International series by 2-1.

They will be desperate to change the statistics from their last tour to England in 2014.

Former southpaw Ganguly believes if India can put 400 runs in an innings, they will win the match.

The fifth-ranked England team has lost their last three Test series winning only one game.

You have to score 400 runs in an innings in Test cricket in order to be competitive. If they get 400 runs in the first innings, they will win,” Ganguly said.

India will have a chance. They are a good side, if they bat well, they will do well in England. They can win the test series. India have got a big chance of winning,” he added.

Ganguly also backed Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who attracted an array of criticism for his slow innings in England.

So much so, his retirement rumours were also going rounds after the third ODI in Leeds. Ganguly hoped Dhoni will soon be back among runs when India play the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

I am sure he will get back to scoring runs. Whatever he does, it’s his decision,” he concluded.
