I Am Little Surprised – VVS Laxman On Ambati Rayudu’s Omission
Last Monday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced their squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. As expected, there are quite a few surprising names on the chart. Vijay Shankar is one such interesting selection, who got the nod ahead of a regular player Ambati Rayudu. Meanwhile, VVS Laxman is surprised to see his omission.
Speaking of the inclusion, MSK Prasad recently quoted that Vijay Shankar is a two-dimensional player, who not only bats but also gives an extra option for Virat Kohli while leading the side. His bowling is the only aspect, which brought him into the ship while Rayudu is unfortunate to miss out.
He has consistently performed – VVS Laxman
In an interview with Hindustan Times, the flamboyant striker of the ball VVS Laxman quoted that it was a pretty surprise for him to see selectors going with the youngster rather than the experienced Ambati Rayudu. He added that Rayudu has done everything to make things fall in place.
Further, he went on to add saying that Ambati Rayudu was trained for the number 4 position by the Indian team management for quite a time. But, unfortunately, he failed to get the nod despite scoring runs for the team.
”It will be very disappointing for Rayudu because I felt he had done everything possible to be in that squad. Since the West Indies series (Oct 2018), where he was asked to bat at No 4, he has consistently performed in that position,” VVS Laxman said.
”He was the highest run-getter in the series, so I was a little surprised they didn’t go with the experience of Rayudu even after performing. It will be very, very painful. I have experienced that in 2003. But as an international sportsperson, it is important to bounce back strongly, and I hope Rayudu does that,” he added.
Well, it would be interesting to see how things would pan out for the Indian National Cricket Team in the major event. For now, they still got the time to make a change to their final squad that travels England. Ambati Rayudu and Pant are the back-ups, who can get the call at any time.
