ICC World Cup 2019: Jofra Archer Makes World Cup Cut After ECB Announces Final Squad for Showpiece Event.
England has finally announced their full 15 member squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 and this is the final team which will play the showpiece event. As expected fast bowling all-rounder Jofra Archer made the cut after the squad was announced on Tuesday.
The Barbados born all-rounder wasn’t included in the preliminary squad but after impressive performances during the ODI series against Pakistan, his inclusion was necessary for England. It would have been unjust to leave out a player of Archer’s calibre despite his inclusion being biased to many.
Left-arm pacer David Willey had to make way while Liam Dawson was also included in the squad in favour of Joe Denly. Archer was impressive during the series against Pakistan which prompted the selectors to include him in the 15 member World Cup squad.
He has an ability to hurl Yorkers on a consistent basis and have quite a few deliveries up his sleeve.
Squad: Eoin Morgan (c), Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, James Vince, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Chris Woakes, Liam Plunkett, Tom Curran, Liam Dawson, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood
Meanwhile, left-arm spinning all-rounder, Liam Dawson who played his last ODI back in October 2018 has also been included in the squad. He is rated as the 3rd best spinner in the country and hence made the cut. He might play a part for England in the World Cup opener. The squad will be officially announced on 21st May.
Dawson will be replacing Joe Denly in the final squad. Denly also bowls leg breaks but didn’t manage to put up an impressive show during the series against Pakistan.
