ICC World Cup 2019: My Heart Is Heavy – Rohit Sharma Says After World Cup Exit
It was a tough day for the Indian National Cricket Team at Manchester. They lost to the New Zealand team while chasing a moderate total on the board, thus, making an exit from the tournament. Meanwhile, the chief run scorer of the Indian team Rohit Sharma comes up with an emotional message to his fans on social media platforms.
Rohit Sharma has been the wrecker-in-chief for the Indian team. He played his heart out to see Indian team winning the game in the league phase of the tournament. But, unfortunately, he failed to make things happen when it mattered the most. He was seen in tears after MS Dhoni was run out in the end overs of the game.
Rohit Sharma scored 5 centuries:
Chasing a moderate total, initially, it was Rohit Sharma, who edged Matt Henry to Tom Latham while Virat Kohli was trapped plumb in front of the wicket when Trent Boult bowled a brilliant Inswinger delivery. It was followed by Henry’s outswinger to KL Rahul and then came the stunner from James Neesham.
In the chase, MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja breathed life into India’s chase after the top three – Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli – departed having scored just 1 run each.
However, the stunning partnership from Ravindra Jadeja and Mahendra Singh Dhoni kept them in the chase until the end. But, the untimely dismissal of Jadeja and a brilliant run out of Dhoni has changed the complexion of the game.
With Dhoni still in middle, all hopes were not over. But the Ranchi-born wicket-keeper batsman saw Guptill turn from zero to hero in a split second. His direct throw – aimed at a single stump – got Dhoni just inches away from the crease. In the end, India lost the semi-finals against New Zealand by 18 runs at Manchester.
Here is how he reacted:
”We failed to deliver as a team when it mattered, 30 minutes of poor cricket yesterday & that snatched away our chance for the cup. My heart is heavy as I’m sure yours is too.The support away from home was incredible.Thank you all for painting most of uk blue wherever we played.”
