IND Vs SL 2017: Unfortunately we were outplayed from the first day : Dinesh Chandimal
India equalled their biggest win-margin in Test matches as they Sri Lanka by an innings and 239 runs in the second Test at the NCA stadium in Nagpur courtesy an all-round performance by the Indian team. Sri Lanka was bowled out for a mere 166 in the second innings losing eight wickets in just over a session on day four as the Test match was over just after the lunch break on day four.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli scored his 5th double century of his career in the first innings. Murali Vijay scored 128 runs, and Rohit Sharma scored 102 in their comeback innings, whereas Cheteshwar Pujara scored an impressive 14th Test century. The Sri Lanka team was completely decimated in both the innings as they were able to bat for just over three sessions in the match.
Sri Lankan captain was the only performer for the Lankan team as he scored half-centuries in both the innings of the match. Dilruwan Perera picked up three wickets for the Sri Lankan team.
This is what Dinesh Chandimal said in the post-match presentation:
It was a good toss to win. Unfortunately we were outplayed from the first day. Our batting let us down again. When you’re playing against India, you’ve got to score 350-plus. Before we came here, we had a game-plan. We said to the guys – if you get a start you have to go on. Hopefully these youngsters will come back strong. Mathews is the senior-most guy in the batting line-up. If he’s not scoring, the batting line-up has let us down. I’m sure he’ll come back strong. We need to get positives out of this. When we’re bowling, our body language was superb. Need to score more runs in the first innings. That’s what we need to discuss as a unit. This wicket was good to bat on for the first three days. The bowling unit has done a really good job. But if you have no runs on the board, they can’t do anything.
