IPL 2019: Andre Russell is a Million Dollar Man for Kolkata Knight Riders Says Chris Lynn
Kolkata Knight Riders opener Chris Lynn has called Andre Russell a billion dollar man for Kolkata Knight Riders after he played a magical knock of 48 of just 13 deliveries to take KKR over the finishing line. It was Bangalore’s 5th consecutive defeat in the tournament. Russell carried on from where he left in the last 3 matches and turned the game on its head within a blink of an eye. He smashed 23 runs off a Mohammad Siraj over and followed it up with 29 runs over of Tim Southee.
Chris Lynn who is another integral part of the Kolkata Knight Riders set-up was all praise for Russell who has single-handedly changed the course of all the matches KKR has been part of in the tournament so far. Lynn stated that Russell has been always asked to bat in tough conditions and he seems to be lifting his game every time he comes on to bat.
“We keep putting him in tough situations and he keeps lifting his game. He is just too good,” Lynn said after the match. “Two-hundred and fifteen was probably par on that wicket. Both teams gave opportunities. We dropped Kohli and AB de Villiers and RCB also dropped a couple of chances. Luck was on our side. Change of fortune for us. It is unbelievable and entertaining for us. He keeps doing it. He is a billion dollar man for KKR,” Chris Lynn said during the post-match analysis show in Star Sports.
Andre Russell came out to bat when Kolkata was in a precarious situation and needed him badly. The wicket of Nitish Rana also fell in a good time as far as KKR was concerned. The only man who had the ability to finish that match for KKR was Andre Russell and he did exactly that by kept depositing the RCB bowlers over the boundary ropes. He eventually remained unbeaten on 48 of 13 deliveries which took the game away from the opposition.
Meanwhile, KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik hailed Andre Russell for his exceptional knock. However, he was quick to add that the bowlers need to come up with better performances in the future matches. Karthik also had a word of encouragement for Chris Lynn who returned to form with 31 balls 43.
“Those kinds of knocks, you don’t talk much. We trust him as a player. It’s important to give him an atmosphere where he’s happy and he just keeps performing. Yes, it was hard to play strokes against spinners with the ball gripping but was easier against the fast bowlers,” Karthik said.
“I think as much as well he batted, it’s time we all started to bowl better and help the batters. It was nice to see Lynn bat like that and take responsibility.”
Kolkata Knight Riders have been one of the strongest franchises in Vivo IPL and have already won the tournament twice. After Russell’s heroics in all the 4 matches, KKR will back themselves to lift their 3rd IPL title. They have looked a strong team and will look to continue their good run of form.
