Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni will achieve another big feat in his career if he manages to hit two more sixes, which he would look to get in the match against Delhi Capitals (DC) on tonight. MSD had been heavily criticized for his decision to come down at number 7 to bat in Chennai’s loss to Rajasthan Royals (RR). CSK won the toss and chose to field, as RR ran rampage at the Sharjah International stadium scoring 216 runs.
Dhoni came in at the number seven spot and had a slow start to the game but went on to hit three consecutive sixes in the last over of the match, scoring unbeaten 29 runs off 17 balls, but CSK fell short of 16 runs. With those 3 sixes, Dhoni’s tally of sixes went up to 298 in T20 cricket.
MS Dhoni is two sixes away from the 300 sixes club in T20 cricket
Dhoni is just two sixes away from entering the 300 sixes club in T20 cricket. The only Indians to have achieved the feat already are Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina. MS Dhoni will be only the third Indian batsman to have 300 sixes in T20 cricket if he is able to get two more sixes. Rohit has 367 T20 sixes to his name while Raina has 311 T20 sixes.
Before the IPL 2020, CSK skipper MS Dhoni had last played a competitive match in the ODI World Cup 2019 and has now returned on the pitch in the IPL after 14 months.
Stephen Fleming defends MS Dhoni on his heavy criticism
Dhoni has been heavily criticised by some notable names including his ex India teammates Gautam Gambhir and Virendra Sehwag for coming at number 7 to bat when the team was chasing a big target. CSK head coach Stephen Fleming has come to his defence stating that Dhoni hasn’t played a lot of cricket in the past one and a half year while everything still expects him to just come on and show the same form of his past. He said that it won’t just happen and needs a bit of work.
“MS is one of the players that hasn’t played much cricket in the last year-and-a-half. Everyone expects MS to come out and do what he has done in the past. It doesn’t just happen. It takes a bit of work,” Stephen Fleming said.
Tonight Chennai Super Kings will play Delhi Capitals at the Dubai International stadium. CSK have played two matches yet in the campaign winning and losing one each.
