It is Very Unfortunate to See MS Dhoni Getting Criticised Says India Skipper Virat Kohli
In 2018, MS Dhoni had a sensational IPL season. He batted like the Dhoni of old and led Chennai Super Kings to their 3rd IPL title in their comeback year. During a poor run of form in 2017, several critics had lashed out at MS Dhoni and his strike rate before Virat Kohli defended his former captain.
Team India skipper Virat Kohli shares a very cordial relationship with former skipper MS Dhoni and the du has huge mutual respect for each other. Vira Kohli takes a lot of suggestions from MS Dhoni on the field while he is leading the Indian limited overs team. It is mainly because Kohli is well aware of the fact that MS Dhoni is a person who knows the game inside out from ball 1 to 300.
During an exclusive interview with India Today, Virat Kohli stated he was very fortunate to have MS Dhoni behind the stumps. Kohli feels it is very unfortunate to see MS Dhoni ger criticized despite his contribution to the Indian team. MS Dhoni stormed back to form in 2018 IPL after a lacklustre few months.
Many former cricketers and critics suggested MS Dhoni needed to retire back in 2017. However, he is going strong even today and will be one of the vital members of Team India when they go to England in the hope of reclaiming the World Cup. Virat Kohli has always defended MS Dhoni whenever the reporters have asked tricky questions on the former skipper.
Even in the field, there are many occasions when Virat Kohli allows MS Dhoni to make field changes and also guide the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. The two wrist spinners always look up to MSD for his suggestions and works accordingly. When MS Dhoni stepped down from captaincy, Virat Kohli told in an interview that MS Dhoni will be his forever captain.
During an interview with consulting Editor of India Today Boria Majumder, Virat Kohli revealed the why he respects MS Dhoni so much and always take suggestion from him on the field. In the last 10-15 overs of a 50 overs match, Virat Kohli has often seen fielding in the boundary and that is when MS Dhoni takes the charge and sets the field. Given Dhoni’s experience, there is no scope of Kohli to be unhappy.
“He (MS Dhoni) is one person who knows the game inside out, who understands the game from ball 1 to ball 300 on the field,” Virat Kohli told India Today. “I won’t say it is a luxury to have him but I am fortunate to have a mind like that from behind the stumps. At the end of the day, I want to be involved in strategy with the team management with Mahi Bhai and Rohit (Sharma).
“In the death overs, I know that I know I have to be in the outfield to try and make something work for the team because that’s my nature that I want to do something for the team rather than just be there.
“After 30-35 overs, he knows that I will be in the outfield and its on auto mode. It’s just about the field placements and bowling changes and we say you know the angles, you know the pace of the pitch and that’s why there is so much trust and respect between the two of us. It’s unfortunate to see so many people going after him,” Virat Kohli told India Today.
