MS Dhoni becomes the first Indian wicketkeeper to claim 300 Dismissals

Indian
skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the first Indian wicketkeeper and the fourth
international wicketkeeper to effect 300 dismissals in One Day International cricket
when he caught Ross Taylor of Shami’s bowling in the first ODI against New
Zealand in Napier on Sunday.

At the start
of this series, Dhoni had 299 dismissals (220 catches and 79 stumpings). He now
joins a unique club of wicketkeepers which features the trio of Australia’s
Adam Gilchrist, who is first with 472 dismissals, former Sri Lanka captain Kumar
Sangakkara, who has claimed 443 dismissals and South Africa’s Mark Boucher who
has 425 dismissals to his name.  Of the
three, who are above Dhoni, only Sangakkara plays international cricket
currently.

Dhoni achieved
the record off Mohammed Shami’s bowling in the 37th over of the match.

Moreover,
Dhoni has now moved ahead of Mohammed Azharuddin with most number of catches
against New Zealand by Indian skipper. His catch of Taylor was his 10th against
the Kiwis.
