Veteran Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has said that he would have loved to play under Virat Kohli’s captaincy as he believes the current Indian skipper is a great leader. Irfan, who played his last international match in October 2012, never played under Virat. He couldn’t play under Virat’s captaincy in the IPL as well even after having played for a lot of clubs in the cash-rich tournament.
There has been a lot of talk going on in the media that suggest team India opting for a split captaincy pattern between Virat and Rohit Sharma. Team India’s recent failures in ICC events have added fuel to the fire as many people are now opposing Virat Kohli’s leadership skills in major tournaments. Keeping in view, the ICC T20 World Cup later this year, a lot of people have now voiced the opinion of handing over the T20 captaincy to Rohit Sharma.
Now, Irfan Pathan has said that Virat Kohli is a great captain and Irfan would have loved to play under his captaincy as Virat’s leadership skills are exceptional.
Irfan Pathan Heaps Praise On Virat Kohli’s Captaincy
In a recent interaction, Irfan Pathan explained why he would have loved to play under Virat Kohli’s captaincy.
“I don’t know if it would be fair to say in one line. I would have loved to play under Virat Kohli’s captaincy,” he said in an Instagram Live interaction with ESPNCricinfo presenter Raunak Kapoor.
“He is the kind of captain who backs his players, he goes out of the way to back his players. He is actually the definition of what a ‘leader’ is, he is a leader,” he added.
Virat Kohli Has Had An Impressive Run As The Skipper Of India
Virat Kohli has been an impressive skipper, especially in Test cricket for team India. Virat has led the Men in Blue in 55 Test matches out of which the team has won 33 games and lost 12 games. 10 games have ended in a draw, and he has a win percentage of 60 in the most extended format of the game.
Kohli has also led India in 89 ODIs so far out of which the team has gone on to win 62 matches and lost only 24 games. One game has tied during Virat’s reign, and two ended in no result. Virat Kohli has a win percentage of 71.83 as India had emerged as one of the strongest ODI teams in world cricket.
In the T20Is, Kohli has led team India in 37 games so far wherein they have won 22 games and lost 11 matches. Two games have ended in a tie, and two games have ended in No Result. Kohli has a win percentage of 65.71 in T20Is.
