Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is desperate to tempt Pep Guardiola to Stamford Bridge with a massive contract along with huge spending fee to overhaul the Chelsea squad, Daily Mail reports.
The Blues are right now looking for a new long-term manager following Jose Mourinho’s exit last week after their dismal start to this season.
Guus Hiddink has been appointed on an interim basis, but Abramovich has no plan to put him in charge come the start of next season. Bayern boss Guardiola has always been the Russian owner’s favourite one to take charge at Stamford Bridge.
The Spanish tactician has also announced he will be no longer with Bayern Munich when the current campaign ends, with Manchester City leading the race to bring him in replacing Pellegrini.
However, Chelsea’s Russian owner is reportedly willing to make Pep Guardiola the world’s highest-paid manager if he decides to take charge at Stamford Bridge. Not only that, Abramovich promises him never ending funds for a massive overhaul of the current squad if he confirms the deal.
Reports are claiming that Guardiola’s wife Cristina Serra prefers London as their next destination if Guardiola decides to leave Munich this summer.
Abramovich tried to lure the former Barcelona manager to Chelsea back in 2012 after the Blues won Champions League but Guardiola rejected the offers when Roberto Di Matteo was sacked.
Despite Chelsea’ interest, it is understood that Manchester City are in pole position to snatch Guardiola, with the Bayern Munich boss having long been coveted by Etihad hierarchy.
His relationship with Etihad chiefs Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristian also gives City an edge, with Manchester United thought to have an interest.
Pep Guardiola reportedly demands his next club to sign £100 million-rated former Liverpool striker, currently Barcelona’s main attacking option Luis Suarez; and that really increases the chances of Manchester City, with their staggering financial resources, winning the highly rated transfer battle for Pep.
The Spanish boss is being highly linked with Manchester United and Manchester City for the last two months after he failed to commit himself to the German giants beyond next summer. But it was claimed that Guardiola’s wife, Cristina Serra, is more than happy with the lifestyle in Munich and is in no hurry to leave German city for a move to Manchester and Bayern were trying to use Pep’s wife to keep him atleast for another season. However, if the reports suggesting his wife’s London preference is true then Chelsea might get lucky to win the race.
