Italian giants AC Milan’s manager Marco Fassone have set a deadline date for Gianluigi Donnarumma to decide his future at the club for the upcoming season
The 18-year old had decided against renewing his contract with Milan earlier this month which will be expiring in the summer of 2018 making him one of the hottest prospects that could be available for free next season.
Frenchman Zinedine Zidane is believed to be a huge admirer of Donnarumma despite admitting that he would continue with current No.1 Keylor Navas for the upcoming season. There are suggestions that Los Blancos could make a swoop for him as early as this summer.
Fassone, Milan’s manager, believes that the situation would be clear before the pre-season training begins in early July.
“We are still waiting and we must look at a series of things,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport about the club’s plan for the player.
“We are working so that by July 3 we will have more certainty over Donnarumma.”
The Italian shot stopper is arguably the biggest young prospect for the coming decade and Real Madrid are considered the favorites to land the teenager.
Real Madrid currently have Keylor Navas as their goalkeeper with Kiko Casilla as their backup keeper and both have done well when called upon in the recent years. The club is also linked with a move for Manchester United’s David de Gea but Zidane had rebuffed the interest from the club’s hierarchy as he is willing to trust Navas with his current role for next season.
However, the club management is already chalking out plans to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma for next summer as there could be stiff competition to acquire him. Earlier reports suggested that there are discussions on bringing the Italian teenager a year early if possible which seems to be a good problem for the club, should Donnarumma decides to leave Milan ahead of the new season.
