The Catalan is one of the best football managers of all time and had won fourteen titles with Barcelona during his four-year spell at Camp Nou. His last game was a Copa del Rey final against Athletic Club which they won to add to his 14th title.

“When it was his final match as Barcelona coach, he approached the group in the dressing room and he told us: ‘Guys, you have achieved great things thanks to every player who is here’,” Sanchez recalled at a press conference ahead of the Confederations Cup final.

“There were players like [Lionel] Messi, [Andres] Iniesta, Xavi, [Gerard] Pique and [Carlos] Puyol there, players who did their job.

“If they hadn’t done, then they team wouldn’t have been bad. That experience has stayed with me.”

The 28-year old has revealed that he learnt a lot from the Spaniard and used the experience to evolve his game in the coming years. He became a leader at Arsenal since his move from Barcelona three seasons ago.

“Over the years I have learned not to be selfish with my teammates,” the Arsenal forward said.

“My maturity as a player has allowed me to integrate myself more with my teammates.

“I think my teammates need me and that I need them. If I want to win anything on an individual level then I need the support of my teammates.”

The Chilean, who is currently playing in FIFA Confederations Cup, has insisted that his team will play as a unit against world champions Germany when the two teams play in the final of the tournament to win the coveted trophy on Sunday.

“When we played the final against Argentina, player by player the better team was Argentina, but we a better team and family,” he suggested.

“It was the same against Portugal. Every player in this team does his part and that has allowed us to achieve great things.”

Sanchez had already won Copa America twice with Chile national team in the past two years and is also keen to win a FIFA event with a win over Germany at St Petersburg.

He has been constantly linked with a move away from Arsenal as he is currently into his final year of the contract.
