Bayern Munich superstar reveals rejected moves to both English and Spanish Giants
Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm has revealed that he rejected Manchester United in the past.
The 31-year-old, who has lifted as many as seven Bundesliga titles with his boyhood club, says he considered a move to England or Spain; with Barcelona showing an interest. But the World Cup winning German International says he doesn’t regret leaving his hometown, although the offers were head turners.
Talking to Squawka, Lahm said, “As a player, you always think about your options and there was a time when Manchester United made an approach for me — and Barcelona looked at me — so I considered life in England or Spain.
“The Premier League was an interesting possibility but in the end I decided to stay in Germany.
“Bayern is my home-town club and I thought good things could happen for the club, so I signed on for more years, and it proved to be the right decision.
“I felt we had the chance to win the Champions League, and I was right. I’d rather win it with my club, my home-town team, than with any other.
“So England might have been nice — but I am glad I stayed in Germany.”
HOW ABOUT NO?: Philipp Lahm reveals he rejected a move to Manchester United
Although Lahm didn’t move to Old Trafford, his teammate and close friend Bastian Schweinsteiger is being courted by the Red Devils.
“He has to decide – not Pep, not [CEO] Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. If he wants to stay for three of four more years here, he can do that,” the Spaniard had said.
