AS Roma manager Rudi Garcia has asked the club’s hierarchy to go and sign Chelsea’s highly-rated Kurt Zouma on loan, according to LE 10 Sport. 20 year old Zouma made 15 appearances in the Premier League for Chelsea last season as Jose Mourinho used him as back-up to John Terry and Gary Cahill. The Frenchman was used sparingly as Mourinho attempted to bed him into the English top flight, but he ended up being a key member of the squad in 2015.
Some injuries unsettled the early months of his career at the club but the 20-year-old soon showed what he was capable of as Jose Mourinho even started in him defensive midfield during the final of the Capital One cup due to suspension to Nemanja Matic and injury to Jon Obi Mikel.
Now, though, with Chelsea allegedly still keen on signing Everton’s John Stones, AS Roma are apparently interested in taking Zouma on loan.
It would be a shock to see Chelsea allow the French star to leave, especially on loan, when he’s the back-up for both Cahill and Terry in defence at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea do not have any more central defender as a cover to the ageing center back pair.
Garcia may well be a big fan of the talented Frenchman, but there’s huge doubt over whether Jose Mourinho would allow such a deal to go through.
Alessio Romagnoli is transferred to Milan and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa about to move to Lyon. So Roma have the need to strengthen the defensive line with only Manolas and Castan in that role for the Giallorossi.
Zouma is the first choice of Rudi Garcia as the defender has been scouted for several years by the sporting director Walter Sabatini who monitored since his Saint-Etienne days.
However, no contact is made so far to Chelsea officially and after the long negotiation for the deal for Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah, it is expected that, the Italian giantswill make an offer for the young Frenchman.
