Kylian Mbappe may have boasted that he doesn’t care about ‘trivial celebrations’, but it seems he hasn’t forgotten that of Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez. The Aston Villa shot-stopper was the talk of the town, both for the good and the bad after he helped Argentina to World Cup glory by delivering heroics in the final against Kylian Mbappe’s France.

Martinez’s outstanding save from a point-blank shot from Kolo Muani in the last minute of the extra-time, and the penalty shootout antics gained him applauds from all over the world. However, he turned those into criticisms after a number of awkward celebrations, where he made an obscene gesture with the Golden Glove he won. But the celebration seems to have gained popularity with Mbappe himself now imitating it.

Kylian Mbappe appears to mimic infamous Emi Martinez celebration

The matter surrounding Kylian Mbappe and Emi Martinez was quite a serious one, with even the football associations of their respective countries, the FFF [France Football Federation] and the AFA [Argentine Football Association] getting involved. Martinez apparently ‘mocked’  a number of times after his Messi-led Argentina defeated the defending world champions in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final to snatch away their crown.

Martinez had a number of animations to put on display, as he first made an obscene gesture with the Golden Glove he won for his scintillating performances throughout the tournament. After receiving the award, he held it at his crotch area in front of the FIFA authorities present on the podium. It didn’t go down well with the footballing fraternity, as FIFA even charged him for that celebration.

However, Kylian Mbappe seemed inspired from that gesture, with the PSG forward himself imitating it as can been seen in the video. PSG have recently returned from Saudi Arabia, where they played a thrilling friendly against a Riyadh All-Star XI. It was apparently at Paris Saint Germain’s training headquarters where Mbappe, before getting into his car mimicked the infamous Martinez celebration.

Meanwhile, it didn’t end there for the notorious ‘keeper with the Golden Glove gesture. Martinez then had a go at Mbappe during the newly crowned world champions’ wild dressing room celebrations, where Argentine pulled another rabbit out of the hat. He chanted ‘a minute silence for Mbappe who is dead’ during the celebrations as his teammates burst into laughter and dancing. Mbappe was rather a hero of the final, who single-handedly dragged his country into the fight with a stunning hat-trick.

Martinez wasn’t done there, as he performed another antic at his team’s festivities back in Buenos Aires. While celebrating their first World Cup win since 1986, the former Arsenal ‘keeper held an effigy with a mask of Mbappe’s face on it during the open bus parade. He again drew the ire of footballing icons, who slammed him for his conduct. The football associations got involved then, with the FFF writing to AFA, condemning the behaviour of their player.
