Paris Saint-Germain midfielder is linked with a move to Barcelona in the recent weeks as the Blaugrana are inching closer to seal a deal.
The 24-year old midfielder is considered as one of the best young central defensive midfielders in Europe and has drawn interest from a host of clubs including Premier League giants Chelsea alongside German champions Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
Verratti is an important player for PSG and the club are trying their level best in a losing cause to keep hold off the Italian midfielder. However, Barcelona are ready to lodge a massive 80m euro bid to ensure they land him this summer.
New manager, Ernesto Valverde is keen to have a central midfielder with impressive ball passing skills and Verratti is touted to his favoured option. There has already been comparisons between the Italian and Barca legend Xavi Hernandez.
Barcelona fans often compare their new marquee midfield signings to their legendary midfielder Xavi as the club continues to look for his potential successor even after two seasons.
Marca made an attempt to compare both the midfielders to check the attributes of their new signing. The Spanish media outlet took the statistics of Xavi Hernandez in his last season at Barcelona which is back in 2015 and compared it took the recent statistics of Marco Verratti.
Looking at the stats, it can be clearly seen that both the midfielders are quite different from each other on the field. The Spanish legend is more a quality ball passer and dictated the play and was more shy to go one on one in tackles.
Meanwhile, the Italian midfielder is a clear ball winner in the middle of the pitch and can often win the ball from an opposition player in the centre of the park. He is more like a box to box midfielder who has wonderful skills with his passing as well.
Should Barcelona manage to sign him this summer, it would be the biggest signing in their recent past and Verratti could be deployed in a role similar to that of Sergio Busquets next season.
