Juventus comfortably completed their mission after holding hosts Barcelona to a goalless draw in the return leg of UCL 2016/17 quarterfinal. Juve is through to the semifinal of UCL 2016/17 following a 3-0 win on aggregate against Barcelona in the quarterfinal round.

With a 3-0 home victory in the first leg, Juventus were always favourite over Barcelona to reach the semifinal of ongoing UCL season. As expected, the Italian side held their nerve in the return leg to secure a goalless draw.

Barcelona was aggressive on the field from the very beginning, but the tight defence from Juventus and lack of qualities for clinical finishes ultimately disheartened the top Spanish side.

Juventus was not paying easy chances for the hosts through their tight defence but Barcelona players managed to create some great chances which were destroyed due to their lack of perfect finishing.

Meanwhile, Juventus created some good chances for themselves too but lesser activeness in the final third wasted those opportunities.

Barcelona only managed 1 shot on target out of their 19 shots of the match. On the other hand, Juventus produced total 4 shots on target out of their 12 shots.

In early minutes, Neymar gave a shaky start in Juventus defence as he superbly entered the penalty box with his superb solo effort but he was finally defeated with an excessive man powers in the defensive zone.

Barcelona and Juventus both tried to open their scoreline at the early stage. On 16 minutes, Cuadrado’s close-range back volley went over the post.

In the very next minute, Messi raised a good ball for Jordi Alba who just failed to make any connection on the ball.

On 19 minutes, Messi missed a great opportunity. The Argentine got a comfortable zone for himself with some freedom to make a perfect shot but that ran wide off the post. Surely, that early chance could put the visitors into the trouble if Messi succeeded on that.

After that, Barcelona put more efforts on their attacking football. Barcelona’s two next back-to-back attacks went off targets.

Higuain missed a great opportunity on 38 minutes after he failed to make a perfect finish on Pjanic’s delivery. Higuain’s shot fell in the safe hands of the Barcelona goalie (Marc-Andre ter Stegen).

Within a few minutes, Iniesta and Neymar were booked due to their rough challenges.

In the early second half (50’), Higuain put a good pass to Cuadrado whose shot went off target.

At next, Messi’s several finishes disheartened with the off targets. One of those were on 67 minutes when Buffon failed to catch the corner kick properly. The ball fell in the front of Suarez who produced a great chance for Messi but the Argentine’s close-range volley ran well over the net.

Till the end, Barcelona tried hard to open their scoreline but their very disappointing finishes denied any chance of thrilling end.
