Indian Athletes continued disappointing performances this morning of 30th August 2015 in Beijing China as Last Indian hope – Lalita Babar Failed to come in first five placeholders announced just a few minutes ago on the final day of the Championship 2015.
Ethiopian Mare Dibaba lived up to her billing as the world’s fastest marathon runner by winning the grueling event at the world championships in a sprint finish on Sunday. Dibaba timed 2hr 27min 35 sec to edge Kenya’s Helah Kiprop by just one second after a sprint in the final 50 meters of the race held in overcast, relatively cool conditions. Kenyan-born Bahraini Eunice Kirwa claimed bronze in 2:27.39.
India’s biggest hope Discus thrower Vikas Gouda finished a poor 9th in the final round of the men’s discus throw event on the penultimate day of the competition yesterday the 29th August 2015.
Vikas Gouda hurled the discus to a length of 62.24 meters well behind more than 5 meters of the winner Piotr Malachowski of Poland 67.4 meters. Even the Bronze medal winner Robert Urbanek of Poland again was about 3 meters (65.18 m) better than Vikas.
In the 50 Km walking race, Indians Sandeep Kumar and Manish Singh ended 26th and 27th respectively out of 38 athletes. Worst still the Indian women’s 4 x100 meters relay team clocked 3:29:08 in the second heat and failed to qualify for the finals though it was their best timing this season. Khusbir Kaur finished a poor 37th in the 20 KM walk.
It is a sorry state of affair that a country of 1.2 billion populations does not have even one athlete to fetch at least a bronze medal. On one hand the same day President awarded the roll of honor for Indian sportsperson. Among 17 awardees, only one in Ms. M S Poovamma is an athlete.
On the other hand, small countries like Jamaica has athletes like Usain Bolt who can muster 3 Gold medals and their 4×100-meter relay team wins the Gold medal.
