Former World Championship Vikas Krishnan(75 KG) was the lone Indian to make into the finals while other three Indian boxers settled for bronze medals in the Asian World Championship here today.

Vikas Krishnan defeated Iraq Waheed Abdulridha 3-0 to reach the finals with Uzbekistan’s Bektemir Melikuziev in the final tomorrow.

However Devandro(49 KG), Satish Kumar (91+KG)and Shiva Thapa(56KG) lost their semi finals despite best efforts and settled for bronze medals.

The three of them had earlier assured themselves of berths in next month’s World Championship – the first qualifier for Rio Olympics in 2016.

Also making the cut for World Championships were Madan Lal(52KG) and Manoj Kumar after the Uzbek boxers who beat the Indian boxers  in the quarter finals via the other boxers from Uzbekistan players reached the finals of the tournament.

It was a very satisfying performance by our boys as six male boxers reached the World Championships cut.

Vikas Krishan was attacking in his approach today and let loose a flurry of punches to the Iraq boxer on the backfoot. In the second round Vikas targeted Waheed Abdulridha forcing him to counter attack. In the end Vikas was declared the winner getting the nod of all three judges.

Satish gave a fighting performance to the Chinese. The Indian boxer lost 0-3 but gave a good fight to the second seed Chinese player. The Chinese player attacked with upper cuts but Satish also did the same but the Chinese was too strong

Devandro was attacking but lost to Uzbek boxer 1-2. It was a heartbreaking loss and fought extremely well but could not be on the winning side.
