European giants Liverpool and Juventus have officially completed the signing of their key transfer targets on Friday. Liverpool signed FC Porto winger Luiz Diaz for just £37.5 million-plus £12.5 add-ons, pending medical on Saturday. Serie A giants Juventus completed Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic for a £62 million-plus add-ons.
Liverpool showed interest in the 25-year-old Colombian winger earlier this month but no offer was made till this week. Premier League giants Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur were also tracking Diaz’ situation this month. Spurs had a similar bid to Liverpool rejected this week after it was reported that the player was not interested in a North London move.
Luiz Diaz is in dazzling form for the Portuguese giants this season with 14 goals and 4 assists in just 18 Primeira Liga fixtures. He has also scored 2 Champions League goals this season and has faced Liverpool twice in group stage matches. Diaz was a joint top goalscorer with 4 goals in last year’s Copa America and is currently in Argentina for the World Cup Qualifiers.
Goal reports that the player had his heart set on the Anfield move and he was quick to accept the personal contract terms in the first meeting with Liverpool representatives. He will be going under medical in Argentina on Saturday as the Reds are sending their staff members to monitor. With the transfer window closing on Monday midnight, Liverpool are pushing for a medical and the official announcement will take place on Saturday or Sunday morning.
FC Porto Manager Furious With Liverpool Signing Luiz Diaz For Just £50 Million:
According to a report from A Bola, FC Porto manager Sergio Conceicao has expressed his anger over the sudden departure of Luiz Diaz to Liverpool. Conceicao pointed out the club’s conduct over this deal was questionable as they forked out just £37.5 million for Diaz. The Colombian star had a £67 million release clause and this deal is nowhere near that figure.
But it was reported that the Portuguese giants’ poor finances forced them to sell out their star player for a lower fee. Conceicao also highlighted the impact of losing a star player during mid-season when they are challenging for the Primeira Liga title this season. Porto sit at top of the table with 53 points from the 19 matches, 6 points ahead of Sporting and 9 points ahead of Benfica.
