WWE dropped a big announcement in the month of November regarding Royal Rumble. Mixed Match Challenge was airing on every Tuesday night with its season II. The contestants in this tourney received an additional motivation to win the whole thing. The statements from WWE.com confirmed that the winners will receive a guaranteed spot at Royal Rumble.
Both the male and female winners will get to enter the prestigious battle royal at number 30 spot in their respective matches. We have received the winners of Mixed Match Challenge season II at WWE TLC. R-Truth and Carmella won the tournament to claim the number 30 spot at Royal Rumble. They will also get to travel to a spot as per their choice around the entire world.
Now the hardcore WWE fans might not be happy with the outcome of Mixed Match Challenge. The number 30 spot at Royal Rumble is perhaps the most coveted spot for the superstars. Whoever enters the match from here get the biggest advantage to head onto Wrestlemania main event by winning the battle royal. Someone like R-Truth can’t match up to that level. So this place could literally be a waste unless WWE comes up with something interesting.
Dave Meltzer hinted the same through his report in The Wrestling Observer. He predicted that there would be some sorts of swerving reserved in the upcoming Royal Rumble match. WWE builds the entire match sending entries throughout. They can’t ruin thing at the very end by letting R-Truth entering the match at number 30. This is the place where fans expect a huge name or a surprise entrant.
This is what the veteran wrestling journalist had to offer regarding the scenario, (via ringsidenews.com)
“I smell a swerve in that number 30 men’s spot. They have to, because I can’t imagine they’re gonna do the whole Royal Rumble and everyone knows R-Truth is coming out at number 30. It ain’t gonna be him. I think we’re gonna get a big surprise. I don’t know who it’s gonna be but I can’t imagine — I could be dead wrong — but I can’t imagine doing a whole Royal Rumble and then number 30.”
One such surprise came in the year 2004 when someone attacked Test before his entry at Royal Rumble. Sheriff Austin instructed the attacker to take Test’s spot at number 21. Later, Mick Foley turned out to be the person who competed in the Rumble match instead of Test. One similar kind of surprise can be waiting for us in the upcoming Royal Rumble match.
