The 13th day at Rio Olympics is probably one of the greatest days in Indian sporting history as shuttler PV Sindhu became the first Indian woman to qualify for the women’s singles finals. The 21-year old from Hyderabad defeated her much fancied opponent world number 6 Nozomi Okuhara, who is also the reigning All England Open champion, by 21-19,21-10 to create history and assure India one more medal.

In golf, Aditi Ashok raised hopes of an Olympic medal as she stood tied 8th after the second round of the Women’s Individual event on Thursday. The 18-year-old was just four shots behind the leader, Stacey Lewis of US after firing a second successive three-under 68, which included five birdies against a couple of bogeys, to move to six-under 136.

However, disappointing news came from wrestling as Babita Kumari lost her opening women’s 53kg category bout 1-5 against Maria Prevolaraki of Greece and got eliminated from the Games.

Coming to the 14th day, PV Sindhu would be hoping to win gold when she takes on Spanish sensation Carolina Marin in the badminton finals. Aditi Ashok will also look to bag a medal after an impressive display.
